Mindfulness is our ability to be fully present and aware of what we are thinking, what we are feeling and what we are doing while not becoming reactive or overwhelmed by what is happening to us.
Mindfulness is the practice of focusing on this moment in time through your mind & body.
Mindfulness is about continually re-examining the nature of human wakefulness and how it can be embodied in modern times. It had been adapting and developing through the centuries when it became more popular in the West during the 60’s/ 70’s.
In 1979 Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn integrated mindfulness with psycho-education to produce an MBSR 8-week programme to treat stress and suffering (pain) with great success. Dr Mark Williams & colleagues later developed the idea further to integrate the programme with CBT to developed the MBCT programme which was also clinically proven to aid depression.
Mindfulness is not regarded as religion but more of a lifestyle choice of becoming more mindful in any given moment, which is why this secular teaching has become more and more popular over the passing years.
Mindfulness is a quality that everyone possesses, you just have to learn how to access it by practicing it in different ways:
When we’re mindful we can:
Reduce stress,
Increased attention,
Enhance our performance,
Gain insights & awareness of our own minds,
Become less judgemental of ourselves & others,
Cultivate curiosity of our minds, thoughts & behaviours,
Be kinder – to ourselves & others.
Improves health & well-being.
The Mindfulness now programme offers a fusion of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) & Mindfulness based Cognitive therapy (MBCT) programmes. It allows the practitioner to build in a more tailored approach to suit your individual needs to give you a more compassionate trauma sensitive programme.
It can be used in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches, or taught either 1:1 or in a group setting (1hour).
Each week builds on your mindfulness knowledge with essential home practice to help embed your learning and with regular commitment and effort you will become more mindful i.e. focused, trusting and non-judgemental in our own life.
